7 Foods To Give Up Now!
Let’s get straight to the point – these are some of the worst foods you can eat. They should be avoided if you’re serious about your health. I’m not telling you to never eat them ever again – I’m just saying to leave them off your shopping list and to switch to healthier alternatives – it’s easy if you try!
- Processed Meat:Smoked, cured, or salted meats contain chemical preservatives that are linked to an increased risk of cancer. Most are manufactured with a carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite – used to turn packaged meats a bright red color so they look fresh. These include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, sandwich meat, packaged ham, pepperoni, salami, and virtually all red meat used in frozen and prepared meals.
- Soft drinks:Loaded with calories, sugar, and artificial ingredients – they have no nutritional benefit and are toxic to your body. One can of regular “pop” contains the equivalent of ten packets of sugar. They are also extremely corrosive to dental enamel. Drinking even small quantities may increase your risk of cancer. Pepsi recently admitted that its drinks contain cancer-causing ingredients. And we all know that diet soft drinks are even worse. Give them up.
- “Chips” or “Crisps” (depending where you’re from):They’re full of artery-clogging trans fats, high glycemic carbohydrates, sodium, artificial flavours, colours, and preservatives. High temperatures used to cook them typically cause the formation of carcinogenic substances like acrylamide, which is also found in cigarettes.
- Microwave Popcorn:Chemicals in the lining of the bag, including perfluoroctanoic acid (PFOA) are part of a class of compounds that may be linked to infertility. In animal lab tests, the chemicals caused liver, testicular, and pancreatic cancers. Microwaving causes the chemicals to vaporize, and migrate into your popcorn. Don’t give popcorn – just do it the old fashioned way!
- Farmed Salmon: Farmed salmon is not only lower in vitamin D than wild-caught, but higher in contaminants, including carcinogens, PCBs, flame retardants, and pesticides including DDT. These fish are also typically treated with high levels of antibiotics. By organic once in a while as a treat.
- The Dirty Dozen Fruits and Vegetables: The Environmental Working Group has just released its 2017 list of the most pesticide contaminated fruits and vegetables. Strawberries and spinach head the list apples are the most pesticide-contaminated produce on average – partly because they have no protective skin or peel to protect them. Other highly contaminated produce includes apples pears, cherries and potatoes, and oranges. In addition to increasing the risk of some cancers, some studies indicate that maternal exposure to pesticides may increase the risk of lowered child I.Q. and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Choose organic for these items.
- Canned Tomatoes:The lining of most canned foods contains bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical that acts as an estrogen and disrupts hormonal activity in the body. Studies show that BPA may be linked to heart disease, intestinal damage and infertility. Tomatoes are particularly dangerous because their high acidity causes BPA to leach into them. Children are particularly sensitive. Buy jars of tomatoes instead.
