The Awesome Apple
One fist-sized apple contains only 80 calories but is packed with goodness. Their soluble fibre (pectin), helps prevent plaque buildup in blood vessels, while their insoluble fibre (cellulose) helps the digestive system move waste quickly through the intestinal tract by adding bulk – great for relieving constipation and promoting healthy gut flora.
Nutrients too
Apples are rich in calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium, as well as B-complex folates and vitamins A and C.
A natural fat blocker
Pectin (their soluble fibre) serves to jellify salts, sugars, and fat, nutrients that get started away as fat, serving as an active fat blocker and preventing your body from absorbing too much. Since most of the pectin is contained in the skin of apples, don’t throw it away when eating them – eat it too (and buy organic).
Remember – at only 80 calories – they make the perfect after dinner treat
